What is interesting about our time, is that despite advances we have made, we have so many people walking around broken! Broken by past occurrences and current situations; unaware of who they are and what they are able to become; without a clue of who bought them here and with what purpose He did so.
As a result, we search for countless fillers. We occupy our time with mere distractors; afraid that if we silenced the noises, we would be disappointed with what was left. So we continue to toy with anything that promises happiness and fulfillment. What it truly delivers is more to obsess over, more to desire. If we would just take the time to get to seek, learn, know…
Ps 139:14, states: “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made…” What a beautiful verse. The entire Chapter was written by a man named David- often referred to as a man after God’s own heart (Acts 13:22). He goes on to say: “…your works are wonderful, I know that full well”
Whoa! This must be a man who knows who he is. How is he so sure of himself? Is he just smarter than the rest of us? Is it because his parents constantly affirmed him as a child? (I’m not betting on that one- especially because he was not even considered, amongst his brothers, by his father to be anointed) Well… maybe he put up little post-its of positive messages all around the farm where he grew up.
Actually, I would venture to say, it was because he knew God. David was not a perfect man! In fact, he was a Grade “A”, bona fide sinner (adultery, murder, lies- just to name a few).
Nonetheless, David knew his self-worth because he knew who his creator was. He knew he was designed by the God almighty. In Ps 139:13, David confesses: “… you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.”
How exciting to know that when it comes to us, God ‘got on his knees’, gathered the dust and took his time and energy to form us. I get the picture of an artist, completely fixated, making sure every piece is formed to His liking.
I love this whole chapter! Why? Because of the intimacy. We can see how intimate of a relationship David had with his creator. How wonderful to realize.
On a more practical level, lets imagine this- Headlines read: “Sasha Obama found roaming the streets, partaking in unmentionable acts to survive.”
I would not even believe it. She is the President’s daughter. She could simply make a call… Why Would she? That’s insane… I could go on and on… Of course this probably would not happen. She is beautiful a girl who knows who she is. She knows her value.
Exactly! As children of God- We must know our value. No need to squirm through life, sneaking around corners, apologizing for our existence; giving consent to others to make us feel inferior. We are God’s creation!
Stop listening to what everyone else has to say, it’s time to hear from our creator. He tells us:
- He created us in his likeness (Gen 1:27)
- He knows us by name (Ex 33:17)
- He formed us in our mother’s womb (Is 49:5)
- He knows every tear we cry (Ps 56:8)
- He has a plan for us (Jer 29:11)
It’s no wonder David thought so highly of himself to say, “ I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well” It was because he knew he was the handiwork of God!
