“The goodness we see in others is a testament to God’s glory, not an overshadowing of ours.” – Seeking You

As I wrote in my About page, the purpose of this blog is to create a community where women of all ages with varying experiences can form connections that encourage, inspire, and educate. I would be remiss, if I didn’t address topics that cause riffs in many relationships. Jealousy and envy abides near the top.

I remember a period in my life, when I viewed most women as competition. Jealousy and envy made their way into my heart and set up camp! For some reason, I felt elated when I was the best dressed, smartest, or the most well-spoken in the room. I felt that acknowledging someone else’s beauty, talent, or kindness, would cast a shadow on mine.

Thankfully, God convicted me of this behavior. He is not done with me yet. I still have a lot more to improve in this area. I am much better person as a result. I now realize that the goodness we see in others is a testament to God’s glory, not an overshadowing of ours.

Throughout my life, I came across many women who had this complex at varying degrees. I experienced what it felt like to have women treat me unfairly, out of jealously and envy. It was not easy. Some felt threatened by me and they were determined to make me pay (at least it felt that way).

Looking back, I can see how we both missed out on the benefits a healthy relationship might have offered us. Jealously and envy, benefits no one. It hurts the victim and the victimizer!

James 3:14-15 States: But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast and be false to the truth. This is not the wisdom that comes down from above, but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic.
In James 3:16, it states: For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there will be disorder and every vile practice.

It’s interesting that the bible calls this behavior demonic and unwise. It goes on to say it causes disorder. Practically speaking, we can see how this is so. If I’m jealous of a fellow sister because of her beauty, brains, or behavior- how am I to speak truth into her life or encourage her. I may be too busy hoping for her demise.

It is imperative that we search within ourselves. If insecurities prevent us from being the true person God intended us to be, we must deal with it. Living a life that allows you to walk up to another woman and compliment her on her beauty or encourage her on her journey is quite beautiful! Speaking positivity and words of encouragement benefits us as well!

We must earnestly seek the help of our heavenly father. Ask God to lead you in this battle against jealousy and envy. Then we must go out and put it into practice. Your kind words, may be exactly what that person needs to hear. When we encounter someone with admirable characteristics, let them know and experience the freedom!

Do you have any experiences with Jealousy and envy, if so Let me hear it! Feel free to leave a comments or any advice below.
